Reuniting the Mattei Caravaggios

August 2024

Between 1601 and 1602, Ciriaco Mattei, a Roman nobleman and collector, commissioned Caravaggio to paint The Supper at Emmaus and The Taking of Christ for the Mattei family palace in Rome. The Ulster Museum display is one of the few occasions, since the early 1600s, that the paintings have been reunited.
